Utopiamobile
What does a desirable future look like? Die Junge Akademie invites you to indulge in utopian dreams.
Introduction
The Utopiamobile is an oasis in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a time machine, an opportunity for dialogue, a blank sheet of paper and a generator of ideas. Above all, however, it is an invitation to imagine the best possible future and to devise shared visions of the good life. This solid yet mobile space can accommodate two people. They can comfortably gaze at the sky and engage in conversation: about anything and everything, about random questions provided in the mobile, and about a desirable future.
Background
In politics and science, dystopian scenarios and problems often guide our actions: How can we avoid the worst? What should be prevented at all costs? The Utopiamobile adds another perspective to this important one: How do we actually want to live? What does a world look like in which many things are good? What is desirable? What do we long for? In order to tackle the crises of the present, we also need shared utopias – visions of the future that motivate us to embark on transformations. The Utopiamobile offers space and opportunity to train our ‘future muscles’ and to engage with other, possibly unsettling visions of the future.
The Research Group Utopias has designed the Utopiamobile to be versatile – as a mobile place for reflection, scientific communication, discussion or debate. The mobile is a platform for discussing various questions and topics and bringing them to unusual places: after all, what distinguishes a mobile above all else is that it cannot be fixed in place, but remains in motion.
