Workshop "RG Language Meets the Editor"

Event

Starts on
08.10.25

Kiel

Event access: Internal

When publishing in scientific journals, it becomes clear time and again how strongly language influences the success of scientific papers – not only in peer review, but also in their visibility and reception within the scientific community.

In this workshop, the participants will discuss language as a central element of scientific quality and impact together with a professional (‘in-house’) editor of a Nature journal with a social and/or natural science focus. In the central Nature journals, the decision to publish a manuscript is made by the journal's editors, who are PhD scientists and are supposed to assess the relevance of the research. A particular focus will be on the tension between increasing (mathematical) formalisation and linguistic accessibility.

    • KlimaLecture #11: From knowlegde to action

Why does broad support for climate protection so rarely lead to decisive political action? The 12th KlimaLecture explores this paradox and discusses, from a psychological and institutional perspective, how climate policy must be designed in order to translate acceptance into effective and stable measures.
