Experimental Sign Language Laboratory (Sign Lab)
University of Göttingen
This interdisciplinary research group focuses on the grammatical structure and cognitive foundations of sign languages. The research, publication and lecture activities range from classical sign language linguistics to psycho-, neuro- and sociolinguistics, as well as deaf studies and gesture research. The team consists of more than 20 researchers at different career levels and student assistants, complemented by more than 15 visiting researchers from universities worldwide. The research environment is characterised by its interdisciplinary and multicultural (deaf and hearing) composition. This enables the team to explore the diversity of sign languages and their users in an inclusive and barrier-free environment through collaboration between hearing and deaf researchers, students and visiting researchers from different disciplines.
