Hydrogenolysis of renewable feedstocks bears the potential to become a bridging technology between today’s petrochemical industry and future biorefinery concepts. In the review, R. Palkovits et al. highlight developments of this research area with focus on catalysts for the transformation of mono- and polysaccharides. Various concepts applied in the utilization of glycerol and sugars provide valuable evidence for the efficient transformation of biopolymers.
